Prefects No Longer Exist

Our school has embraced the Ministry of education's proposed system of student leadership that seeks to replace the outdated 'prefects body' with the more friendly 'student council' system. Students of Junda high school have understood, internalized and accepted the new approach.
During the month of August, students conducted peaceful, free and fair elections out of which 17 student leaders were elected. The positions vied for included; chairman, secretary, communications officer and class representatives. The exercise subjected all to an enjoyable election mood, with teachers doing the role of polling clerks and the transparent laboratory eureka cans serving as ballot boxes. The principal was the effective returning officer.
Almost two months after the elections, there seems to be a much better organization in the school thanks to the efficiently functional students council led by the capable young man called Derrick Odera.
It is our hope that all shall be well for all stakeholders of Junda high school.

Needy Case

This Boy, Lukas.

Lukas Sikuku Muliro is the 2011/2012 head prefect of Junda High School.
The boy, who is now in form four, was admitted to the school in 2009 after his brother, a cook in a neighboring primary school, convinced the school administration that Lukas had a sponsor who would be paying his school fees. Because of this and Lukas’ high marks from primary school he was offered a chance in form one.
Fees for the first term was paid as had been promised but it did not go further than that. The agent of the sponsor informed the school that the Germany sponsor to Lukas had died hence his fees would not be paid. This meant that Lukas had to drop out of school because his brother and poor mother could not pay the fees.
For almost two months, Lukas was on casual jobs from where he could raise money only enough to buy himself food. He tried to save some money for his fees but could only raise 350/= for the two months. This is the money he presented to the school principal.
The principal was touched and decided not to let the financial problem ruin the bright boy’s future. By the way, Lukas has always been the best student in academics in the school since he joined the school, his worst grade ever since being A- (minus).
The principal presented Luka’s case to the school management and the school director, Mr. Patrick Nyabola, agreed to allow him learn and even reside in school until he completes his high school.
Luka’s is however worried now that he is in form four and will be writing his exam soon, after which he is to proceed to college for higher education. When he shared his thoughts with the school principal, Mr. Oyaro, in April 2012, the principal advised him to concentrate on his studies first and pass his exams, as God will take care of the rest.
He has faith that God will touch some blessed person somewhere who will help him.
